Kathy McClendon, resident of Albuquerque, NM, grew up in the southern states but migrated to the Southwest, where she was born to be, at least metaphorically.  She has been a New Mexico resident off and on for a total of thirty-one years with a six-year intersection of her journey in California.

She is an artist with an eclectic taste in art, loving  abstract, mixed media and realistic styles; she loves various mediums particularly pastel, oil, watercolor, acrylic, colored pencil, textiles, and graphite.  Through her art business,  Hushpuppy Moon, LLC, she chooses to share and promote the joy of art, the power of art, and the passion of art. She believes creativity to be a powerful tool for critical learning, for enjoyment, and for wellness and healing.  As a part of her work, her purpose statement is as follows:

My Purpose Is To Use My Creative Curiosity And Energy To Help Others Find, Pursue, And Celebrate Themselves And Their Passions Through The Stories Of Others, Through Creative Experiences That Unlock Their Own Creative Spirit, And To Nurture Creativity, Wellness, And Identity Through Art.

Part of her philosophy of art is rooted in her years participating in the education of at-risk middle school and high school students.  In those years in education, creativity and art played a big part of her success and enjoyment.  No matter what subject was being taught, art integration allowed reluctant learners a way to connect to the academic content, begin to feel a sense of accomplishment and understanding, and to develop the ability to critically think that they had not previously experienced.  As a school administrator, she continued to promote arts integration in the curriculum and classroom.

Of her own art she says, I want the art I design to draw viewers in and cause them to see things that others don't see, to create stories in their mind, and to find a place they want to be, even if only in their imagination.  Art is a journey personal to the artist, and when art can provide an avenue for the viewer to participate, it becomes a destination well-traveled.
